In 2020 I posted an extensive article detailing my experiences surrounding the development of my piece Time in the Rock (composed between 2001 and 2004). During 2022 and 23 I was able to organize professional recordings of TITR and a later piece from 2017/18, Clear Things May Not Be Seen. It was a large and complex undertaking, involving three recording studios in two countries, several fantastic sound engineers, and a wonderful group of virtuoso performers.
The recording of Clear Things may be found in a previous post HERE. The piece is now published by Keyboard Percussion Publications. Time in the Rock consists of four musical movements, each meant to be preceded by a spoken monologue. My plan for a commercial recording of the piece was to make audiophile-quality (45 rpm) double-LP vinyl records, each of the four sides with one movement and its monologue. The actual manufacture and distribution of either LP records or CDs have yet to be realized, but both types of media are still planned. Since it will likely be another two years before they are available, I’ve decided to post audio for the musical movements here on my blog. The complete text, including the monologues, may be viewed HERE. The monologues have been recorded as well, spoken by the phenomenal Canadian voice actor Richard Waugh; however, they are not included on the audio files below.
Performers: Lindsay Kesselman, soprano 1 and 2; Andrea Ludwig, soprano 3 and 4; Ethel string quartet (Corin Lee, Kip Jones, Ralph Farris and Dorothy Lawson); Midori Koga, piano; Louis Pino, marimba; Bob Becker, vibraphone.
Engineering, editing and mixing: Ray Dillard, Randy Crafton and Douglas Romanow.
Mastering: Graemme Brown.
